Being Immortal. It’s the thought for every one. Don’t get surprised. Pinch yourselfNot Now. Even millions of years ago. Everybody on this Universe and particularly on this World want to become immortal.  I can quote zillions of examples for persons that aspired to become immortal.To begin with we can take a classic example from Hindu Mythology. Churning of the Milky Ocean(Samunthra Manthan) for Amruth or Nectar is the one which I’m referring to.

The Story goes likes this.The Devas and Asuras  ,both the descendants from the same Father Sage Kaashyap. Devas were the descendant from Aditi and Asuras from Diti . This story is also in the Greek Mythology but with different Names. Even though the Devas and Asuras are the descendant from the same father they both were arch enemies. The entire Hindu Mythology is full of stories of their fights. The Devas and Asuras wanted to be immortal and as per the suggestion of the Generator Operator and Destroyer they started to churn the Milky way Ocean called Thirupaarkadal for getting the nectar. It is believed that consuming a drop of Nectar makes one immortal.With all other sub-stories (which is not our point of discussion here may be in a later post) finally they both got the Nectar. Now that for having the Nectar there was a quarrel between both Devas and Asuras and Lord Vishnu taking Mohini Avatar started giving Nectar to the Devas. Sensing a foul play the Demon Rahu disguised as a Deva and sat amidst them. He also managed to get the nectar and before he could consume the nectar he was beheaded by Lord Vishnu thanks to Surya and Chandra who had complained that he was not a true Deva. At this point the head became Rahu and the torso became Kethu and they both share the body of Snake. So all this tricks were done for becoming immortal.

Even now you can see lot of Ads targeting Men and Women alike especially by the FMCG industry specyfying that if they used their products they can be young ( i.e a way of extending ageing). Many fall trap to this trick and start prey to their products. People fall victim to the Glossy and Steamy ads by the most popular persons and think they too can become like one. These are all the signs of the people’s desire to postpone ageing and becoming immortal (Remember Extends Class in Java).

But these are all temporary. As Day and Night , Light and Darkness , Real and Reel exists Life and Death Exists. you cannot become immortal. This is the fact. So Am I sounding too philosophical ? Not really. So what is the way out. How can we become immortal.?

We remember the Hindu Mythology, Greek Mythology We remember  Saint Thiruvalluvar , Poet Kambar , Poet Ilango Adigal, Kalki Krishnamurthy , the Great Rajaraja Chozhan , Karikal Valavan. Even though they are not living now, they are immortal.  We remember them for Gods , Thirukkural , Ramayanam , Silapathigaram , Ponniyin Selvan , big Temple at Thanjavur and the Grand Anaicut. (Thanks got a line of reference to my last post Green Sojourn )  Their works stands immortal. So do you get a clue ? Not Yet. Do something that speaks for you even after you cease to exist.?
